small town collaborations: a mentored residency

(Charlottetown) -this town is small inc. is seeking applications from Island artists to participate in the second edition of Small Town Collaborations, August 12th to 25th 2103 in Charlottetown, PE. The jury selected Island artist will work with a Mentor to create a finished artwork for Art in the Open contemporary art festival in 2013. They will also have the opportunity to present a public artist talk of their own work or present a technical public workshop. An artist fee of $1000.00 will be paid to the selected Island Artist and studio space will be provided.

Small Town Collaborations is a two week, mentor based artist residency that brings together established and emerging contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds to share and develop their technical skills, knowledge and professional practice. The residency results in an exhibited art piece that is presented at the Art in the Open Festival 2013, August 24 2013.

this town is small inc. is excited to host Nova Scotia based artist Will Robinson as this year’s Small Town Collaborations Mentor. Will Robinson’s conceptually-based practice uses a variety of processes and media, including kinetic sculpture, electronics, sound, film/video and performance. The impetus for his work often stems from encounters of an intimate or immediate nature.

Will Robinson has exhibited throughout Canada and Internationally. Drawn to his eclectic roster of completed residencies and community engagement projects, this town is small inc. anticipates the new ideas, new connections and new technical skills that will be shared and generated throughout this iteration of Small Town Collaborations.

Only artists currently living on Prince Edward Island can apply. Deadline is July 30 2013.

All applications received will be reviewed by a jury of cultural industry professionals. All applicants will be notified of the jury results no later than August 10th 2013. 

this town is small .inc is Prince Edward Island’s only virtual artist run centre. this town is small is an artist-run non-profit organization dedicated to increasing public awareness and understanding of contemporary art forms. Serving as a vehicle for communication among artists and between artists and the community this town is small encourages collaboration between all art forms to strengthen the position of contemporary art in P.E.I. and the Atlantic region.
