June 4 – July 12, 2019

In partnership with Receiver Coffee Co., this town is small presents a solo exhibition of new work by Melissa Peter-Paul, entitled Apija’tuek Epekwitk,* on view from June 4 – July 12.

This solo exhibit is one woman’s contribution to revitalizing an appreciation for Mi’kmaq quillwork in the Charlottetown area. Through her quillwork, Melissa honours her teachers, ancestors and cultural values by bringing a modern approach to an ancient artform. The quillwork pieces incorporate traditional materials such as porcupine quills, birchbark, spruce root and sweet grass, which have played a central role in Mi’kmaq material culture throughout time. Melissa views her work as an expression of her Mi’kmaq identity.

*we are bringing it back to Epekwitk
