this town is small is dedicated to providing innovative, challenging and boundary pushing programming for contemporary artists on PEI. As such, the organization does not focus its energy on running a typical, static gallery space. Instead TTIS commits to developing diverse and unexpected partnerships within the community in order to present cutting edge opportunities for artists and unique art experiences for the public.
Collaboration and community involvement are top priorities for our organization, and we have seen much success in provincial and municipal project funding and multiple community partnerships. To date we have collaborated with private companies such as Upstreet Craft Brewing, and the Holman Grand, and fellow arts organizations such as the Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Island Media Arts Coop, the PEI Crafts Council, and the Fédération culturelle de l’IPÉ. We have co-developed and partnered in cultural events of major significance on PEI, like Flotilla, and Art in the Open, a festival that has been so successful it is now preparing to incorporate as its own entity. In 2018 we will program ongoing gallery spaces at UPEI and the Charlottetown Farmer’s Market, and embark on new programming partnerships with the Guild, the Eptek Centre, and Receiver Coffee.
TTIS has developed residencies and mentorships for artists, exhibition opportunities for artists from emerging to mid-career, and helped artists access new markets and recognition. We invest in the career development and export potential of Island artists by ensuring they have access to nationally recognized exhibition opportunities in PEI. In conjunction with our exhibitions we encourage knowledge sharing and networking between artists via artist talks and creative gatherings. We assess and address the cultural needs of our community.
