ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
This residency will act as an introduction to various media arts technologies and techniques, and will be divided in two sections: training and exploration.
The first month of the residency will feature weekly training sessions with artist-mentors in the FilmPEI facilities. One-on-one training will be supplemented with take-home exercises and materials that the artist can work on throughout the duration of the internship. In the second month, the artist in residence will be given the opportunity to dive deeper into their areas of interest and work on an independent media art project with the continued access to FilmPEI’s facilities, and the ongoing support and technical assistance from the mentors.
Training and areas of focus will be tailored to the artist in residence’s interests and skill-level. Mentorship and training provided will include introductions to working with interactive video using MaxMSP software (Alter video effects with your voice! Create sounds using movement! Incorporate live video effects into performance art! The possibilities are endless!), physical computing using Arduino (Use sensors to make sounds with water, light, and movement! Make sculptures dance to music! Make a robotic musical instrument!), and other media art technologies (Augmented reality! Projection mapping! Green screen! SFX video editing!). Training will focus on creation, play, and experimentation, and will encourage the artist to learn new techniques and softwares, overcome technical challenges, and expand their imagination.
This opportunity supports one artist between 15 and 30 years of age to partake in training and open-ended artistic creation in media arts. Artists with no prior experience working in media arts are encouraged to apply. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated candidate who is eager to learn new digital skills, with the goal of developing a media art project over the course of the internship.
