Monumental and the Mundane
The Peake Street Collective operates in partnership with this town is small to mentor new artists and create exciting exhibition opportunities for first-time exhibitors and experienced artists alike. We are seeking artworks for a non-juried group exhibition by Island artists scheduled for mid July to late Fall at Receiver Coffee on Victoria Row in Charlottetown.
The exhibition is titled Monumental and the Mundane and will feature small works (under 12 in x 12 in.) to allow for as many participants as possible. Artists will be limited to one submission each. In order to be included, works will need to be completed by July 5th, 2023.
Monumental and the Mundane is an invitation to consider what is monumentalized and celebrated, and what fades into the background of everyday life. Participants may rethink which ideas, people, values, objects and experiences are monumental to their lives. They may interpret this theme as an invitation to celebrate the mundane as monumental, to question conventional monuments, or to explore what is of consequence and what is (seemingly) not. Two dimensional works will be accepted in any media.
Artists are asked to send expressions of interest to peakestreetstudios@gmail.com. No formal application is necessary, but space is limited, so please notify the collective of your interest as soon as possible as group exhibitions typically fill up within the first few days. A waitlist will be started when capacity is reached and the call will close at midnight on Friday, May 26th, 2023.
Monumental and the Mundane is open to all artists regardless of their exhibition experience; first-time exhibitors and artists with limited exhibition histories are encouraged to participate. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis but space will be reserved for artists who are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), LGBTQS2SIA+, and/or people with disabilities. If you feel comfortable doing so, please let us know in your email if you identify with one or more of these groups.
